The Great Cake Debate

Not because I didn't have anything better to do... or necessarily because the cake appointment is tonight and I'm feeling serious pressure to figure out what the HELL I want for my cake... but because I wanted to see what it would look like, I made a mockup of a new cake design...
Paint FTW! My idea behind the different sized white dots on the chocolate part is that it looks like snowfall... I don't know if it looks that way to anybody else, but I'm trying to make it look that way in my head.

I'm freaking out. I have no idea what I want for a cake... I dont know how to personalize it, or how to make it fantastic and breathtaking. I just want tastey, yummy buttercreamy goodness, and I want it to make people flee the dance floor when the cake is served to wait drooling at their seats. I've never had wedding cake that I liked or remembered... and all I really know about what I want for my cake is this: I don't want fondant. That right away whacks down my ability ot personalize.

I just want it to look tastey... and I have some ideas but most of them I'm lukewarm about. I love our cake topper, and I think it's pretty general. And my former cake drawing? I'm just not loving the lattice-look. It reminds me of summer with morning glories growing up the side of the house. Not winter awesomeness and tasteyness.

So, as of this moment, I'm going with the chocolate tiers having white dots of varying sizes that will represent snow falling (against a brown sky?) and white butter cream swirliness of the other tiers. And between the tiers? The little pearly things, seen here showing how it is applied to a contrasting chocolate and white cake, but not with buttercream yuck.

So... I guess I won't know what kind of cake I'm having until... tonight when we go talk to the cake lady... I hope she has some flash to show us...

Desperately Seeking Sweet Inspiration, but totally ready to taste of cake!
